Glenboy Drive

Co. Leitrim

Take the Glenfarne road from Manorhamilton and turn right, signposted Caiseail. These caiseail are two Iron Age stone forts which date from about 500BC and they lie about 5km from the junction with the Glenfarne road. The road is narrow and crosses wild and beautiful scenery. Access to the forts is signposted and should be attempted by foot, leaving the car on the road. Boots are recommended as the ground underfoot is often soggy. Gates and fences need to be negotiated to reach the forts and care should be taken. Resume the drive, turning right at the main road to complete the circle to Manorhamilton. The long ridge, right is O'Donnell's Rock while, left is the impressive bulk of Benbo Mountain. Teampall Cluann Clair, a medieval church ruin which was recorded in the registry of Clonmacnois in 965 AD, can be seen, right, near the town.

Ballinamore Angling

Co. Leitrim

Ballinamore is internationally renowned for its abundance of coarse angling waters. Being in the centre of Leitrim's lakeland district there are a minimum of 40 lakes within a 10km radius of the town. Most of the waters can be fished from the shore, however for those who wish to explore further, boats are available locally for hire, for the angler who like canal fishing, we now have the new beautifully restored Canal, a magnificent fishing venture of Bream, Raoch, Tench Perch, Eel, and Pike. Specialised fishing maps, bait and tackle together with "Local Knowledge" are available in the town.
